The beauty discovery landscape

Competition analysis

How made for u fits among beauty video finders, creator shopping apps, and beauty collection tools.

Last reviewed 30 August 2026

✦

This analysis uses public product sites and store listings. It is not a hands-on audit of every product.

Summary

One direct rival. Several partial substitutes.

Glossy is the closest direct competitor. It was previously called Claire. Its public App Store description presents almost the same first step: share a TikTok or Instagram beauty video, identify the products, and save them to a shopping list.

The rest of the market competes with one part of the made for u workflow. Creator platforms help users buy products that creators tag. Beauty organizers track products that users own or want. Visual search and retailer apps help users find one product at a time.

The direct category is still early. This gives made for u room to own the full journey from a beauty video to a reviewed wishlist, an owned kit, and reusable looks.

Closest competitor

Glossy: Beauty Product Finder

High overlap

Glossy's App Store subtitle is “Find Products From Any Video.” Its listing says that a user can share a TikTok or Instagram beauty video, identify makeup, skincare, and hair products, compare retailer prices, and save products or routines.

The same app was previously called Claire. Its version history and its remaining “Claire Pro” purchase labels show the name change. Its version history starts in April 2026. At the time of this review, the United States listing had nine ratings. This suggests that the product and the category are new.

Mentioned: Beauty Finds

Medium overlap

Mentioned analyzes public YouTube videos from beauty creators. It shows products with source evidence, sponsorship information, saves, creator follows, and price alerts. It does not start with an arbitrary video that a user shares from TikTok or Instagram.

Creator shopping

LTK

Medium overlap

LTK lets users shop creator posts, save products, and receive price alerts. It competes for the “shop this creator's look” use case. Its product links usually depend on tags supplied by the creator.

ShopMy

Medium overlap

ShopMy offers creator-led product discovery, wishlists, and tools that save products from other sites. It is mainly a creator storefront and affiliate-shopping platform.

Substitutes

Manual search and tagged shopping

Google Lens, TikTok Shop, Instagram Shopping, Sephora, and Ulta are substitutes. A user can identify, search for, or buy a visible product with these tools. The user must usually work one product at a time, or rely on product tags supplied by a creator. These tools do not usually turn a complete beauty video into a reviewed and persistent product library.

Our position

Own the complete journey

“Find products from videos” is not enough of a position. Glossy already uses that language and competes directly on the first step.

  1. 01Share a beauty video.
  2. 02Review the product and shade matches.
  3. 03Keep the source with each import.
  4. 04Save wanted products to a wishlist.
  5. 05Move owned products into a kit.
  6. 06Build, share, and remix looks from that kit.

Current points of difference

  • a review step for uncertain product matches
  • source and import history for saved products
  • a clear transition from Wishlist to Kit
  • named and ordered Looks that users can share and remix
  • the option to add missing products from a Look to the wishlist
  • a preference for official product pages and trusted local retailers
  • a privacy position that does not require us to store the source video

These points must stay factual. We will not make accuracy claims until tests support them.

Product choices

Gaps to consider

◇

Retailer price comparison

Glossy promotes price comparison. This can add data cost, maintenance, and affiliate pressure.

◇

Wider beauty coverage

Glossy covers skincare and haircare. Wider coverage can also weaken our initial makeup position.

These are product choices. They are not automatic backlog items.

App Store position

Use language that goes beyond detection

We should not use “Find products from videos” as the App Store subtitle. It is too close to Glossy's “Find Products From Any Video,” and makes the products look interchangeable.
